v0.0.2 - The First Update

Time for an update! This week, we're bringing you the first of many, many updates which will slowly see the project transform into a more complete experience. This version has a whole host of changes and new features, including a new save system, new bird spawning and movement patterns, and even an all-new bird. Read on for the full story, or head straight over to the download page and get stuck in!

New Save System

In version 0.0.1, it was only possible to store a single photograph of each bird in the guidebook. In 0.0.2, things have changed. You can now take up to four photos of each bird, all of which will be displayed in the guidebook at once. Keep in mind that four is the current limit, and if you take any more than this, your older photos will be overwritten. We've also changed the script slightly so that the level doesn't have to reload when you choose the 'Reset Photos' option from the menu.

In future, we'll also be adding in the ability to delete individual photos, as well as the ability to delete all photos of a specific bird.

New Bird Spawning System

In version 0.0.1, there were always four birds present onscreen at the start of the level. This was fine for the very first demo, but it gets old fast. In 0.0.2, there's a completely new spawning system. Up to eight birds can now spawn at the start of the level, some of which will start offscreen and then fly into view. Birds can also fly out of frame, too, and when they do, they will be de-spawned and replaced with a new bird at random. All of this means that you won't be stuck watching the exact same birds over and over again.

The spawning system will also see further improvement in the future, with some birds spawning more often than others.

New Bird - Chaffinch

Of course, it wouldn't be a complete update without the addition of a new bird. This week, we're bringing you the chaffinch, a colourful little bird which can be seen darting from tree to tree in parks, gardens and woodland.  Of course, at the minute there's only woodland, and not a lot of it, but that's beside the point. The point is, there's a new bird, so get your camera out and go find it.

Bug Fixes

Last but not least, we have a couple of bug fixes in this update. There's not much to say about these, so we'll just list them:

- Birds flying behind UI elements will no longer prevent them from being interacted with

- Clicking the camera twice will no longer cause issues with displaying the subsequent photos

- The loading screen will now be shown correctly instead of freezing on the main menu
